Calling all Cavaliers! The Annual Voices of Placentia Bay Festival is scheduled to take place in Placentia from August 2-5, 2018. This year the festival has partnered with Laval High School 50th Anniversary Committee to celebrate 50 Years of Laval High School!
DAY 1 – THURSDAY – AUGUST 2, 2018
Placentia Area Theatre d’Heritage presents “An Evening with the USO: The Windjammer 1969.” Showtime 5:30 pm, Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre, Placentia. Admission $45.00. Advance Sale Tickets, visit www.placentiatheatre.com for more information. This event is SOLD OUT.
Official Opening Celebration! Join us at Laval High School as we officially kick off the Laval 50 Celebrations! The event will feature greetings from dignitaries, proclamation signing, alumni choir, meet and greet, memorabilia viewing and an opportunity to explore the new school! An information booth will be available for questions about weekend activities and for activity sign up. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone Welcome! Event begins at 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2018.
DAY 2 – FRIDAY – AUGUST 3
Hike to Castle Hill - Commencing at Laval High School, Placentia at 11:00 am. Join in this walk along the Boardwalk and then up the stairs to Castle Hill! A group photo will be taken at the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge. Once at Castle Hill National Historic Site of Canada you can witness the firing of the cannon at noon! Then enjoy a picnic as you view a special performance of Faces of Fort Royal by Placentia Area Theatre d’Heritage. Appropriate footwear is recommended for the hike! Not able to hike with us - you can still join the activities at the site. Bring your own picnic lunch or pre-order at a cost of $10 by calling 709-227-ARTS (2787) or emailing [email protected].
Historic Walking Tour of Placentia – Step back in time with the Placentia Area Historical Society for this free guided walking tour of the historic sites and structures located in Townside. Meet at the O’Reilly House Museum at 2:00 pm. The tour will end at the museum where you will have the opportunity to explore the great displays at the museum. Donations accepted for the Placentia Area Historical Society.
Tour of Argentia – Tour the Port of Argentia on a Motor Coach Bus and learn about the history of the site and the many activities which are presently taking place at the Argentia Industrial Site and Port. Seating is limited! Please contact [email protected] to reserve a seat. The bus will depart from the PATH Theatre Office on Orcan Drive at 3:15 pm. Presented by the Port of Argentia.

Alumni Athletics – Mixed Basketball. Come out to the impressive Laval High School Gymnasium for a game of basketball! Tip off time is 7:00 pm. Appropriate clothing and indoor footwear required. Go Cavaliers Go!
Friday Night Dance! Meet up with old classmates, reminisce about school days and dance the night away at the Freshwater Community Centre (La Fontaine Club). The night will feature two live bands – “Nautical Mile” and “Collins.” Doors open at 8:00 pm on Friday, August 3, 2018. Admission $10 per person. A 19 years or older event. Please enjoy responsibly.
DAY 3 – SATURDAY – AUGUST 4
Cavalier 5K Run/Walk – Put on your running shoes and school colours and join in the Cavalier 5K Run/Walk! The run will follow a predetermined route around Placentia, starting and ending at Laval High School. Registration begins at 9:30 am. Run/walk will start at 10:30 am. Registration cost is $20.00 per adult, $10.00 student/seniors, under 12 free. First, second and third place medals will be presented. Random prize draws for special Laval 50 swag! Proceeds from this event will support the Laval 50 Alumni Legacy Fund.
Alumni Athletics – Mixed Softball. Head to the field in Placentia for a game of softball. Opening pitch is at 12:00 noon. Go Cavaliers Go!
FESTIVAL IN THE SQUARE – Head to the Town Square for the Seventh Annual Voices of Placentia Bay Festival! Gates open and the entertainment and fun begins at 1:00 pm. Festival Admission is $10.00 per person, children 12 and under free. Live Entertainment (1:00 pm to 11:00 pm) featuring Conway, The Locals, 227, Scott O’Keefe, Larry Foley, Tangled Roots, Heel N Toe, and Des Gambin Band! The festival grounds will also feature games, Sky High Amusements, concessions, beer garden and more! An afternoon of fun and entertainment for all ages!
Saturday Night Dance at the Star of the Sea! Dance the night away to Caper! This well-known Placentia band is reuniting for the Laval 50 Celebration and are ready to take the stage to rock the town with ever popular music from the 70s and 80s. Admission $10.00. Doors open at 10:00 pm, entertainment begins at 11:00 pm. A 19 year or older event. Please enjoy responsibly.
DAY 4 – SUNDAY – AUGUST 5
Ecumenical Celebration – Begin the final day of celebration by taking part in this special morning of prayer, music and reflection in honour of Laval High School’s 50th Anniversary. The service begins at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia. A free will offering will be collected for the Laval 50 Alumni Legacy Fund.
Remembering Those Who Served – Each year the Voices of Placentia Bay Festival includes the Annual Commemorative Ceremony of Remembrance at the Placentia Bay Veteran’s Cenotaph (Town Square). This service will take place immediately following the ecumenical service. Military or service uniform appropriate for those serving.
Hot Roast Beef Dinner & Closing Ceremonies – Join us at the Star of the Sea for a delicious hot roast beef dinner as you reflect on the memories made during Laval 50 Celebrations! Comments will be delivered by the committee and there will be photo highlights from the weekend! Meal service by the Star of the Sea Ladies Auxiliary begins at 12:00 pm. Tickets are $15.00 and available at Town Hall until Thursday, August 2.
Outdoor Concert at Castle Hill National Historic Site of Canada. Head to the hill for this music celebration which begins at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 5, 2018. It will be an afternoon of live entertainment featuring youth from Laval High School, St. Anne’s Academy and visiting children of Laval Alumni. This will be a great opportunity to hear many of the future Voices of Placentia Bay. Free admission for the concert. BBQ concession will be available on site.
Fireworks Finale! Close out the celebration with a bang! Join us at the Fort Frederick Site, Placentia (by the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge) at dusk for our Fireworks Finale!
